I created Beyond Speech PNW LLC to support nonspeaking and unreliably speaking individuals in finding their voice through Spelling to Communicate (S2C). I believe every person is capable, intelligent, and deserving of respect. Through motor-based communication and a foundation of regulation, trust, and connection, I help each speller and family move toward purposeful, meaningful expression. Together, we go beyond speech—toward understanding, confidence, and genuine communication.
Unlocking Communication
What is Spelling to Communicate? (S2C)
Spelling to Communicate (S2C) teaches individuals with motor challenges the purposeful motor skills needed to point to letters to spell as an alternative form of communication (AAC). The goal is to build synchrony between the brain and body. Skilled, rigorously trained communication partners use a hierarchy of verbal and gestural prompts to support motor learning. As skills strengthen, students progress from letterboards to keyboards, moving from concrete to abstract communication.
How do I know if my child is appropriate for Spelling to Communicate (S2c)?
S2C is appropriate for anyone age 5 or older who is nonspeaking, minimally speaking or unreliably speaking. Just as with traditional education, we adapt to the individual learning needs of a specific student. We know that all students can and want to learn.
